Gunilla Süssmann is one of the most sought after norwegian pianists of her generation. During the last years she has had an increasingly growing international career and is highly acclaimed by both audience and press. Within Norway she has been awarded numerous prizes and awards, and in 2006 she was nominated for Les révèlations Internationales d´année in Midem, Cannes.
She is a regular guest at the major festivals in Norway as well as abroad, and is a popular soloist with main orchestras in Norway and Europe. She has given recitals in Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, throughout Europe, in Asia and South-Americaand this year she gave her debut in the US. In 2005 she released her solo-CD “Tockà”, to overwhelming reviews worldwide, and further releases include a.o “Malinconia” with cellist Tanja Tetzlaff and “Romances” with soprano Solveig Kringleborn. Both received exceptional reviews and attention.
Chambermusic has a special and dear place in her heart, and she collaborates regularly with musicians such as Tanja Tetzlaff, Solveig Kringleborn, Lars Anders Tomter and Raphael Wallfisch. Her repertoire includes works from Bach to Messiaen, Crumb and contemporary composers, but her heart lies in the romantic era. This season Gunilla Süssmann has performed with Utah Symphony Orchestra, WDR Köln, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and upcoming concerts include recitals in Germany, chambermusic at the Vestfold-festival, Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele and recitals with Randi Stene and Solveig Kringleborn.
